Problem

For the Brusselator model with parameter A=1.5A = 1.5, diffusion coefficients Du=1D_u = 1 and Dv=6D_v = 6 (dimensionless model units), the Hopf threshold is BH=1+A2B_{\rm H} = 1+A^2, the Turing threshold is BT=(1+ADu/Dv)2B_{\rm T} = (1+A\sqrt{D_u/D_v})^2, and the critical wavenumber satisfies qc2=A/DuDvq_{\rm c}^2 = A/\sqrt{D_uD_v}. ((a)) Compute BHB_{\rm H} and BTB_{\rm T} and say which instability occurs first as BB is raised from zero. ((b)) Compute the critical wavenumber qcq_{\rm c} and the pattern wavelength Λc=2π/qc\Lambda_{\rm c} = 2\pi/q_{\rm c}.
