Problem

Photons from a faint, steady star arrive at a detector independently of one another and at a constant mean rate of λ=0.20 s−1\lambda = 0.20\,\mathrm{s^{-1}}. ((a)) State which distribution models the waiting time until the next photon arrives after a given instant, and justify the choice by naming the property of the arrival process that produces it. ((b)) Find the probability that the waiting time exceeds 10 s10\,\mathrm{s}.
