Problem

A separate pendulum experiment gives a best estimate gˉ=9.792 m s−2\bar g = 9.792\,\mathrm{m\,s^{-2}} with a combined standard uncertainty uc(g)=0.015 m s−2u_{\rm c}(g) = 0.015\,\mathrm{m\,s^{-2}}, obtained by combining several Type A and Type B rows in quadrature. The spread of the underlying readings is close to Gaussian. ((a)) Write the result as it should be quoted at coverage factor k=1k=1, with the one-sentence statement of what that ±\pm promises. ((b)) Write the result at k=2k=2, computing the expanded uncertainty UU and stating the coverage it claims and the sentence that goes with it.
