Problem

A lens of dense flint glass, n3=1.70n_3=1.70, is used in air, n1=1.00n_1=1.00, at normal incidence, and is to be coated for a design wavelength λ0=600 nm\lambda_0=600\,\mathrm{nm}. ((a)) Find the index of the ideal single-layer coating. ((b)) The coating is made instead of magnesium fluoride, n2=1.38n_2=1.38. Find the quarter-wave thickness. ((c)) Find the reflectance of the coated surface at 600 nm600\,\mathrm{nm}, and compare it with the bare surface. ((d)) With the thickness fixed, find the reflectance at 450 nm450\,\mathrm{nm}.
