Problem

A kayak travels at a steady U=6.0 m s−1U = 6.0\,\mathrm{m\,s^{-1}} across a deep lake. Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\mathrm{m\,s^{-2}} and treat the water as deep, so that the gravity dispersion relation ω2=gk\omega^2 = gk applies to the wake. ((a)) State the half-angle of the Kelvin wake behind the kayak. ((b)) Find the wavelength of the transverse waves directly behind the kayak.
