Problem

A short-sighted student cannot see clearly beyond a far point of 40 cm from her eye. She is to be given a thin spectacle lens, treated as being in contact with the eye, which forms an image of a very distant object at her far point so that the relaxed eye can focus it. Air surrounds the lens and the sign convention is the book's: so>0s_o > 0 for a real object to the left, si>0s_i > 0 for a real image to the right. What dioptric power D\mathcal{D} should the lens have?
