Problem

A beam is measured six times with a polariser and a circular analyser, giving the irradiances (all in W m−2\text{W m}^{-2}): I0∘=0.60I_{0^\circ}=0.60, I90∘=0.20I_{90^\circ}=0.20, I45∘=0.30I_{45^\circ}=0.30, I135∘=0.50I_{135^\circ}=0.50, IR=0.45I_R=0.45, IL=0.35I_L=0.35. Find the four Stokes parameters S0,S1,S2,S3S_0, S_1, S_2, S_3 and the degree of polarisation Π\Pi.
