Problem

An air-spaced (n=1.00n=1.00) Fabry-Perot etalon has two mirrors of reflectance R=0.85\mathcal{R} = 0.85 each, separated by d=3.00d = 3.00 mm, and is used at normal incidence with light of wavelength λ=633\lambda = 633 nm. ((a)) Find the free spectral range, the coefficient of finesse FF, the finesse F\mathcal{F}, the linewidth Δν1/2\Delta\nu_{1/2}, the order mm and the resolving power λ/Δλ\lambda/\Delta\lambda. ((b)) The mirror spacing is now doubled to d=6.00d = 6.00 mm, with R\mathcal{R} unchanged. Repeat the calculation. ((c)) State, with a one-line reason for each, which of the five quantities changed and by what factor, and which stayed the same.
