Problem

A detector records a K−K^- of energy 600 MeV600\,\mathrm{MeV} and a π+\pi^+ of energy 500 MeV500\,\mathrm{MeV}, emerging 10.0∘10.0^\circ apart, believed to come from the decay of a short-lived neutral particle X→K−π+X \to K^-\pi^+. Take mK−c2=493.7 MeVm_{K^-}c^2 = 493.7\,\mathrm{MeV} and mπ+c2=139.6 MeVm_{\pi^+}c^2 = 139.6\,\mathrm{MeV}. Compute the invariant mass MM of the K−π+K^-\pi^+ pair.
