Problem

A secondary beamline delivers K+K^+ mesons of momentum 3.00 GeV/c3.00\,\mathrm{GeV}/c. The charged kaon has mass 493.7 MeV/c2493.7\,\mathrm{MeV}/c^2 and cτ=3.711 mc\tau = 3.711\,\mathrm{m}. ((a)) Estimate the mean decay length of these kaons in the laboratory. ((b)) Estimate the distance downstream of the production point at which half of the original beam has decayed.
