Problem

The Ω−\Omega^- baryon has quark content ssssss and measured mass 1672.5 MeV/c21672.5\,\mathrm{MeV}/c^2. Take the listed mass of the strange quark as msc2=95 MeVm_s c^2 = 95\,\mathrm{MeV} (the Chapter 3 quark table value). (a) Add the three quark masses and express the sum as a fraction (in per cent) of the measured Ω−\Omega^- mass. (b) Compare this fraction with the proton's, where the summed quark masses (9.1 MeV/c29.1\,\mathrm{MeV}/c^2) are about one per cent of 938.3 MeV/c2938.3\,\mathrm{MeV}/c^2. State in one sentence what the comparison shows about where a hadron's mass comes from.
