Problem

The baryon Ξ−\Xi^- (quark content dssdss) is observed to decay as Ξ−→Λ+π−\Xi^- \to \Lambda + \pi^-, with a measured mean lifetime of 1.639×10−10 s1.639\times10^{-10}\,\mathrm{s}. The Λ\Lambda has quark content udsuds and the π−\pi^- is duˉd\bar u. ((a)) Find the strangeness of Ξ−\Xi^-, Λ\Lambda and π−\pi^- from their quark content, and hence ΔS\Delta S for the decay. ((b)) Using ΔS\Delta S and the measured lifetime, state which interaction is responsible for this decay.
