Problem
The tensor meson f2(1270) has JP=2+ and decays strongly into two pions in about 84% of its decays, two thirds of those as π+π−. Each pion has intrinsic parity P(π)=−1 and spin 0.
((a)) Find the orbital angular momentum L of the two-pion final state.
((b)) Compute the total parity of the final state and state whether the decay is allowed by parity.
