Problem

An event display from a general-purpose detector shows the following signals for one particle produced in a proton-proton collision. (a) A curved track in the tracker, from which the curvature gives a transverse momentum of 45 GeV/c45\,\mathrm{GeV}/c. (b) The track points into the electromagnetic calorimeter, where a cluster of 46 GeV46\,\mathrm{GeV} is deposited. (c) No energy is deposited in the hadronic calorimeter directly behind that cluster. (d) No hit is recorded in the muon chambers. Identify the particle, giving the reason each layer's signal (or absence of signal) rules out or confirms the identification.
