Problem

Four qubits are shared among four distant stations in the state ∣GHZ4⟩=(∣0000⟩+∣1111⟩)/2|\mathrm{GHZ}_4\rangle=(|0000\rangle+|1111\rangle)/\sqrt2. Consider the four observables XXXXXXXX, XXYYXXYY, XYXYXYXY and XYYXXYYX, one Pauli measurement per station. ((a)) Using Y∣0⟩=i∣1⟩Y|0\rangle=i|1\rangle and Y∣1⟩=−i∣0⟩Y|1\rangle=-i|0\rangle, show that XXXX∣GHZ4⟩=+∣GHZ4⟩XXXX|\mathrm{GHZ}_4\rangle=+|\mathrm{GHZ}_4\rangle and that each of XXYYXXYY, XYXYXYXY, XYYXXYYX gives −∣GHZ4⟩-|\mathrm{GHZ}_4\rangle. ((b)) Suppose, as a local hidden-variable model would have it, each station's qubit carries predetermined answers xi,yi∈{±1}x_i,y_i\in\{\pm1\} to the questions "XX" and "YY". Using the three −1-1 results from part (a), show that the model is forced to predict x1x2x3x4=−1x_1x_2x_3x_4=-1, contradicting the +1+1 that XXXXXXXX gives with certainty. ((c)) Confirm, as an operator identity independent of any state, that XXYY⋅XYXY⋅XYYX=−XXXXXXYY\cdot XYXY\cdot XYYX=-XXXX.
