Problem

The three-qubit bit-flip code has logical error probability pL=3p2−2p3p_L = 3p^2-2p^3 per round, for independent bit-flip probability pp per physical qubit, assuming perfect encoding and syndrome extraction. Calculate pLp_L for ((a)) p=0.02p=0.02; ((b)) p=0.05p=0.05; and in each case state whether the code improves on an unencoded qubit.
