Problem

A classical bit is sent down an optical fibre link modelled as a binary symmetric channel: each transmitted bit XX is flipped to give the received bit YY with probability Q=0.08Q = 0.08, independently for each bit, and XX is equally likely to be 00 or 11. Compute the mutual information I(X:Y)I(X:Y) in bits per transmitted bit.
