Problem

Protons in a liquid-state NMR sample are probed at a Larmor frequency of ν=700 MHz\nu=700\,\mathrm{MHz} at a temperature T=310 KT=310\,\mathrm{K}. ((a)) Compute the thermal polarisation ϵ=hν/(2kBT)\epsilon = h\nu/(2k_BT). ((b)) The pseudo-pure signal available from an nn-spin molecule scales as (n/2n) ϵ(n/2^n)\,\epsilon. Find the ratio of the pseudo-pure signal of a 1515-spin molecule to that of a 33-spin molecule, at the same ϵ\epsilon.
