Problem

A nitrogen-vacancy centre in diamond has zero-field splitting D=2.87 GHzD=2.87\,\mathrm{GHz} and electron gyromagnetic ratio γe=28 GHz T−1\gamma_e = 28\,\mathrm{GHz\,T^{-1}}. A static magnetic field B=10 mTB=10\,\mathrm{mT} is applied along the NV symmetry axis, Zeeman-shifting the ms=±1m_s=\pm1 sublevels by ±γeB\pm\gamma_eB relative to the ms=0m_s=0 level, which is unshifted. ((a)) Find the microwave frequency needed to drive the ms=0→ms=−1m_s=0\to m_s=-1 transition. ((b)) Find the microwave frequency needed to drive the ms=0→ms=+1m_s=0\to m_s=+1 transition.
