Problem

An electron sits in a finite square well whose potential is zero far from the well on both sides. Two bound-state energies of this well, measured from the potential at infinity, are known to be E1=−0.62E_1 = -0.62 eV and E2=−0.08E_2 = -0.08 eV, and no other bound level exists. For each of the three energies Ea=−0.62E_a = -0.62 eV, Eb=−0.40E_b = -0.40 eV and Ec=+0.30E_c = +0.30 eV, say whether the electron is in a bound state, a scattering state, or not in a possible stationary state at all, and say which of the three, if any, give a normalisable wave function by themselves.
