Problem

The chapter states, without showing the algebra, that matching ψ\psi and ψ′\psi' at both edges of a rectangular barrier gives the exact result T−1=1+V02sinh⁡2κa4E(V0−E)\mathcal T^{-1} = 1 + \dfrac{V_0^2\sinh^2\kappa a}{4E(V_0-E)}. Carry out that matching. Write ψ=Aeikx+Be−ikx\psi = Ae^{ikx} + Be^{-ikx} for x<0x < 0, ψ=Ceκx+De−κx\psi = Ce^{\kappa x} + De^{-\kappa x} for 0<x<a0 < x < a, and ψ=Feikx\psi = Fe^{ikx} for x>ax > a, with k=2mE/ℏk = \sqrt{2mE}/\hbar and κ=2m(V0−E)/ℏ\kappa = \sqrt{2m(V_0-E)}/\hbar. Show that T=∣F/A∣2\mathcal T = |F/A|^2 (the two outer regions share the same kk, so no current-weighting factor is needed) reduces to the stated exact formula.
