Problem

Clinical scanners increasingly use a 3.0 T3.0\ \mathrm{T} field, stronger than the 1.5 T1.5\ \mathrm{T} scanner described in this chapter's interlude. Take the proton's precession rate to be 42.58 MHz T−142.58\ \mathrm{MHz\,T^{-1}}. Find the frequency at which the radio coil around the patient must be tuned to detect the precessing protons in a 3.0 T3.0\ \mathrm{T} scanner, and the factor by which this exceeds the 1.5 T1.5\ \mathrm{T} scanner's frequency. Does this factor need any new information about protons, or does it follow from the physics already in this chapter?
