Problem

Three weaker hydrogen lines just beyond the violet end of the four visible Balmer lines are reported as vacuum wavenumbers: 25181.125181.1, 25705.725705.7 and 26065.4 cm−126065.4\,\mathrm{cm^{-1}} (NIST ASD). They crowd towards a limit a little above 27000 cm−127000\,\mathrm{cm^{-1}}. ((a)) Identify the series (n1n_1) and assign an upper level n2n_2 to each line. ((b)) Fit RHR_{\rm H} from the three lines. ((c)) Give the term values T2T_2, T7T_7, T8T_8 and T9T_9 in cm−1\mathrm{cm^{-1}}, and describe the term diagram: where the series limit sits and how the three lines appear as arrows on it.
