Problem

(a) A field B=4.0 TB = 4.0\,\mathrm{T} is applied to a sample. Calculate μBB\mu_{\rm B}B in eV, in GHz and in cm−1\mathrm{cm^{-1}}. (b) In a Doppler-free spectroscopy experiment, the two magnetic sublevels of the sodium ground state (2S1/2^2\mathrm{S}_{1/2}, gJ=2g_J = 2) are found to be split by Δν=37.2 GHz\Delta\nu = 37.2\,\mathrm{GHz}. Using ΔE=gJmJμBB\Delta E = g_J m_J \mu_{\rm B}B, find the field BB that produced this splitting.
