Problem

Hydrogen bromide, HBr, has vibrational constants ωe=2649.67 cm−1\omega_e = 2649.67\,\mathrm{cm^{-1}} and ωexe=45.21 cm−1\omega_ex_e = 45.21\,\mathrm{cm^{-1}}, and a rotational constant B0=8.465 cm−1B_0 = 8.465\,\mathrm{cm^{-1}} in its lowest vibrational level. ((a)) Find the band origin ν~0=ωe−2ωexe\tilde\nu_0 = \omega_e - 2\omega_ex_e of the fundamental (v=0→1v=0\to1) absorption band. ((b)) Using B0B_0, calculate the wavenumbers of R(0)R(0), R(1)R(1), R(2)R(2) and P(1)P(1), P(2)P(2), P(3)P(3). ((c)) State the width of the empty gap at the centre of the band and confirm that no line falls exactly at ν~0\tilde\nu_0.
