Problem

The pure rotational absorption spectrum of gaseous hydrogen bromide, H79Br\mathrm{H^{79}Br}, is measured in the far infrared. Its rotational constant is B0=8.465 cm−1B_0 = 8.465\,\mathrm{cm^{-1}}. Using the rigid-rotor selection rule ΔJ=+1\Delta J = +1, predict the wavenumbers of the first four lines of the absorption spectrum, starting from J=0J=0, and state the spacing between successive lines.
