Problem

Frame SS is the rest frame of a space station. Frame S′S' is the rest frame of a freighter that moves at v=0.600cv = 0.600c along the common +x+x axis of SS; the axes of the two frames are parallel and the origins coincide at t=t′=0t = t' = 0. Both frames are inertial. Take c=2.998×108 m s−1c = 2.998\times10^{8}\ \mathrm{m\,s^{-1}}. ((a)) A navigation beacon flashes once, at x=900 mx = 900\ \mathrm{m}, t=4.00 μst = 4.00\ \mu\mathrm{s} in SS. Find the coordinates x′x' and t′t' of this event in S′S'. ((b)) A courier drone moves along the xx axis at 0.400c0.400c as measured in SS. Find its velocity in S′S', as a multiple of cc.
