Problem

Two charged pions, each of mass mπ=139.6 MeV/c2m_\pi = 139.6\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^2, move along the xx axis of the laboratory frame SS. Pion A has speed 0.800c0.800c in the +x+x direction as measured in SS. Pion B is observed from the frame S′S', which is in standard configuration with SS and moves at v=0.500cv = 0.500c along the common +x+x axis; in S′S' pion B has speed 0.600c0.600c in the +x′+x' direction. The pions are far apart and do not interact. ((a)) Find the speed of pion B in the laboratory frame SS, as a multiple of cc. ((b)) Hence find the invariant mass of the two-pion system, in MeV/c2\mathrm{MeV}/c^2.
