Problem

A large asteroid is modelled as a static sphere of uniform density with mass M=2.59×1020 kgM = 2.59 \times 10^{20}\ \mathrm{kg} and radius R=2.63×105 mR = 2.63 \times 10^{5}\ \mathrm{m}. No other body contributes to its field. Take G=6.674×10−11 N m2 kg−2G = 6.674 \times 10^{-11}\ \mathrm{N\,m^{2}\,kg^{-2}} and Φ=0\Phi = 0 at infinity. ((a)) Find the magnitude of the gravitational field strength at the surface. ((b)) Find the gravitational potential at the surface. ((c)) Find the magnitude of the field strength at a point 1.00×105 m1.00 \times 10^{5}\ \mathrm{m} from the centre.
