Problem
A thin flat plate is held at an angle of attack α=8∘ in a stream of air at M1=3 (γ=1.4).
((a)) By shock-expansion theory, find the pressure ratios plower/p1 and pupper/p1 on the two faces.
((b)) Find the lift and drag coefficients CL and CD, using the dynamic pressure q1=21γp1M12.
((c)) Compare with the linear results CL=4α/M12−1 and CD=4α2/M12−1, and say why the agreement is not as close as for the plate at M1=2, α=5∘ in the text.
