Problem

Tungsten is body-centred cubic with room-temperature lattice constant a=3.165 A˚a=3.165\,\mathrm{\AA} (tabulated). Using the bcc Brillouin-zone labels Γ=(0,0,0)\Gamma=(0,0,0), H=(1,0,0)H=(1,0,0) and N=(12,12,0)N=(\tfrac12,\tfrac12,0), in units of 2π/a2\pi/a: ((a)) Compute the distance ∣ΓH∣|\Gamma H| in A˚−1\mathrm{\AA^{-1}}. ((b)) Compute the distance ∣ΓN∣|\Gamma N| in A˚−1\mathrm{\AA^{-1}}.
