Problem

For each crystal below, the only operation that matters is a screw axis along cc, and the reflections considered are (00l)(00l), which every rotation about cc leaves unchanged. ((a)) A tetragonal crystal has a 414_1 screw along cc. Which of (001)(001), (002)(002), (003)(003), (004)(004) and (008)(008) are forced to vanish by the screw? ((b)) Answer the same question for a 424_2 screw along cc. ((c)) Hexagonal close-packed magnesium, P63/mmcP6_3/mmc, has a 636_3 screw along cc. Which of (001)(001), (002)(002) and (003)(003) does the screw forbid?
