Problem

Vitreous B2O3\mathrm{B_2O_3} has a measured thermal conductivity κ=5.0×10−3 W m−1 K−1\kappa = 5.0\times10^{-3}\,\mathrm{W\,m^{-1}\,K^{-1}} at T=1.0 KT=1.0\,\mathrm{K}, in the low-temperature regime where two-level-system resonant scattering gives κ∝T2\kappa \propto T^2. ((a)) Using κ∝T2\kappa \propto T^2, estimate κ\kappa at T=0.15 KT=0.15\,\mathrm{K}. ((b)) Estimate κ\kappa at T=5 KT = 5\,\mathrm{K} using the same scaling, and explain briefly why this second estimate should not be trusted.
