Problem

Ellipsometry on a bulk, film-free CdTe crystal at a photon energy of 1.50 eV1.50\,\mathrm{eV} gives a complex refractive index n~=nopt+iκopt\tilde n = n_{\rm opt}+i\kappa_{\rm opt} with nopt=2.90n_{\rm opt}=2.90 and κopt=0.050\kappa_{\rm opt}=0.050. Light is incident normally from air (refractive index 11) and the surface is optically flat. ((a)) Find the relative permittivity ε1+iε2\varepsilon_1+i\varepsilon_2. ((b)) Find the normal-incidence reflectivity RR. ((c)) Find the absorption coefficient α\alpha in cm−1\mathrm{cm^{-1}} and the absorption depth 1/α1/\alpha in μm\mu\mathrm{m}.
