Problem

A detached eclipsing binary's light-curve model gives a giant component with radius R=15.0 R⊙R = 15.0\,R_\odot, uncertain to 1%1\%. Interferometry (via a surface-brightness-colour calibration) gives its angular diameter θ=0.500 mas\theta = 0.500\,\mathrm{mas}, uncertain to 3%3\%. ((a)) Find the distance dd in parsecs using d=2R/θd = 2R/\theta (with θ\theta in radians). ((b)) Find the absolute uncertainty in dd, in parsecs, from error propagation in quadrature.
