Problem

A calorimeter has stochastic, noise and constant terms a=5.0 % GeV1/2a = 5.0\,\%\,\mathrm{GeV^{1/2}}, b=0.20 GeVb = 0.20\,\mathrm{GeV} and c=0.5 %c = 0.5\,\%, combined in quadrature as σEE=(aE)2+(bE)2+c2.\frac{\sigma_E}{E} = \sqrt{\left(\frac{a}{\sqrt{E}}\right)^2 + \left(\frac{b}{E}\right)^2 + c^2}. ((a)) Calculate σE/E\sigma_E/E at E=5 GeVE = 5\,\mathrm{GeV} and state which term dominates. ((b)) Calculate σE/E\sigma_E/E at E=50 GeVE = 50\,\mathrm{GeV} and state which term dominates.
