Problem

The Σ∗0\Sigma^{*0} is the J=32J=\tfrac32 decuplet member built from one uu, one dd and one ss quark, with L=0L=0. ((a)) Write down the unique totally symmetric combination ϕS\phi_S of the three flavour labels u,d,su,d,s, built from all six orderings and normalised to unity, and check its normalisation. ((b)) Pair ϕS\phi_S with the totally symmetric spin state ∣↑↑↑⟩|{\uparrow\uparrow\uparrow}\rangle (S=32,Sz=32S=\tfrac32,S_z=\tfrac32) to build ∣Σ∗0,Sz=32⟩|\Sigma^{*0},S_z=\tfrac32\rangle, and confirm that the combined state is symmetric under exchange of any two quarks, as required given the antisymmetric colour singlet and symmetric L=0L=0 space part. ((c)) State why the octet states Λ\Lambda and Σ0\Sigma^0, which have the same quark content udsuds, cannot use ϕS\phi_S, and instead require the mixed-symmetry flavour combinations ϕMS,ϕMA\phi_{MS},\phi_{MA} paired with the mixed-symmetry spin doublets χMS,χMA\chi_{MS},\chi_{MA}.
