Problem

A parallel-plate capacitor has plate area A=200 cm2A = 200\,\mathrm{cm}^2 and gap d=2.0 mmd = 2.0\,\mathrm{mm}. A dielectric slab of relative permittivity εr=3.0\varepsilon_r = 3.0 fills exactly half the gap as a layer next to one plate, the other half of the gap being vacuum. Fringing fields are ignored. ((a)) Find the vacuum capacitance C0C_0 of the empty capacitor. ((b)) Find the capacitance CC with the layer in place.
