Problem

A parallel-plate capacitor has plate area A=100 cm2A = 100\,\mathrm{cm}^2 and gap d=2.0 mmd = 2.0\,\mathrm{mm}. A dielectric slab of relative permittivity εr=6.0\varepsilon_r = 6.0 fills exactly half the plate area, side by side with vacuum filling the other half, both occupying the full gap. Fringing fields are ignored. ((a)) Find the vacuum capacitance C0C_0 of the empty capacitor. ((b)) Find the capacitance CC with the dielectric half in place.
