Problem

Liquid gallium is stirred at v=0.50 m s−1v = 0.50\,\mathrm{m\,s^{-1}} in a vessel of size L=0.30 mL = 0.30\,\mathrm{m}. Its conductivity is σ=3.4×106 S m−1\sigma = 3.4\times10^{6}\,\mathrm{S\,m^{-1}}. ((a)) Calculate the magnetic Reynolds number Rm=μ0σvLR_m = \mu_0\sigma vL. ((b)) State, without further calculation, whether diffusion of the field dominates, transport dominates, or neither can be neglected in this flow.
