Problem

In a low-energy neutron-proton scattering experiment only the ss-wave contributes. At centre-of-mass wavenumber k=0.185 fm−1k = 0.185\,\mathrm{fm^{-1}} the measured ss-wave phase shift is δ0=42.3∘\delta_0 = 42.3^\circ. Calculate the ss-wave cross section σ0\sigma_0, in barns (1 b=100 fm21\,\mathrm{b} = 100\,\mathrm{fm^2}).
