Problem
An odd-mass actinide nuclide decays by α emission to two levels of its daughter. Branch A, to the level that keeps the odd nucleon in the same deformed orbital as the parent, has intensity IA=80% and a computed WKB penetrability PA. Branch B, to a level that requires the odd nucleon to change orbital, has intensity IB=0.80% and a computed penetrability PB=3.0PA (the larger Qα of this branch gives it a larger penetrability). Assume the two branches would have equal preformation factors if there were no change of configuration. Find the hindrance factor of branch B relative to the systematics set by branch A.
