Problem

A region of interest spanning a suspected peak contains 24502450 gross counts. The background under the peak, estimated from side regions of the same total width as the peak region, is 18501850 counts. ((a)) Calculate the net peak area. ((b)) Calculate its standard uncertainty using σnet=Ngross+Nbkg\sigma_{\rm net} = \sqrt{N_{\rm gross} + N_{\rm bkg}}, and express this as a percentage of the net area.
