Problem

A worker receives an absorbed dose of 8.00 mGy8.00\,\mathrm{mGy} to the lung from photons (wR=1w_R = 1) and, from an internal alpha-emitting contaminant, an absorbed dose of 0.0500 mGy0.0500\,\mathrm{mGy} to the bone surface (wR=20w_R = 20). Use the ICRP 103 tissue weighting factors wT=0.12w_T = 0.12 for lung and wT=0.01w_T = 0.01 for bone surface, and assume no other tissue receives a dose. ((a)) Calculate the equivalent dose to each tissue. ((b)) Calculate the effective dose from this exposure.
