The Nucleus Resolved, Ch Fission: the double-humped barrier and the shells the drop cannot see

Problem

For the compound nucleus formed when a neutron is captured on 237Np{}^{237}\mathrm{Np}, the liquid-drop deformation energy and the Strutinsky shell-plus-pairing correction have been computed separately at five deformations. Data in MeV, as β2\beta_2: ELDME_{\rm LDM}, δUshell+δPpair\delta U_{\rm shell}+\delta P_{\rm pair}: 00: 00, +2.1+2.1; 0.250.25: 1.01.0, −2.9-2.9; 0.450.45: 3.03.0, +0.9+0.9; 0.600.60: 3.73.7, −2.7-2.7; 0.800.80: 4.44.4, −0.8-0.8. ((a)) Add the two rows at each deformation and identify the deformed ground state. ((b)) Give the inner barrier height EAE_A, the second-minimum excitation energy, and the outer barrier height EBE_B, all measured from the ground state.
