Problem

A thrust fault has strike ϕf=090∘\phi_f = 090^\circ, dip δ=30∘\delta = 30^\circ and rake λr=90∘\lambda_r = 90^\circ (pure reverse slip), in the convention with strike measured clockwise from north, dip from the horizontal on the side the fault dips to the right of the strike direction, and rake in the fault plane from the strike direction. Working in the frame xx north, yy east, zz down: ((a)) Write the unit normal n^\hat{\mathbf{n}} to the fault plane. ((b)) Write the unit slip vector d^\hat{\mathbf{d}}. ((c)) Check that n^⋅d^=0\hat{\mathbf{n}}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{d}} = 0.
