Problem

A vertical, left-lateral strike-slip fault has strike ϕf=045∘\phi_f = 045^\circ, dip δ=90∘\delta = 90^\circ and rake λr=0∘\lambda_r = 0^\circ, in the convention with strike measured clockwise from north, dip from the horizontal, and rake in the fault plane from the strike direction. Working in the frame xx north, yy east, zz down: ((a)) Write the unit normal n^\hat{\mathbf{n}} to the fault plane. ((b)) Write the unit slip vector d^\hat{\mathbf{d}}. ((c)) Check that n^⋅d^=0\hat{\mathbf{n}}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{d}} = 0.
