Problem

A spin-1/21/2 state is written ∣χ⟩=(1+i)∣↑⟩−2i∣↓⟩|\chi\rangle=(1+i)|{\uparrow}\rangle-2i|{\downarrow}\rangle in the SzS_z basis, where ⟨↑∣↑⟩=⟨↓∣↓⟩=1\langle{\uparrow}|{\uparrow}\rangle=\langle{\downarrow}|{\downarrow}\rangle=1 and ⟨↑∣↓⟩=0\langle{\uparrow}|{\downarrow}\rangle=0. ((a)) Write the bra ⟨χ∣\langle\chi|. ((b)) Compute ⟨χ∣χ⟩\langle\chi|\chi\rangle. ((c)) Repeat (b) with the coefficients left unconjugated, as if the bra correspondence were linear, and say why the result cannot be a squared length.
