Problem

An electron of mass m=9.11×10−31 kgm = 9.11\times10^{-31}\,\mathrm{kg} moves in a harmonic potential of angular frequency ω=1.5×1015 rad s−1\omega = 1.5\times10^{15}\,\mathrm{rad\,s^{-1}} and occupies the number state ∣n=4⟩|n=4\rangle. ((a)) Using p^=iℏmω/2 (a^†−a^)\hat p = i\sqrt{\hbar m\omega/2}\,(\hat a^\dagger - \hat a), obtain ⟨n∣p^2∣n⟩\langle n|\hat p^2|n\rangle by counting which terms survive. ((b)) Evaluate it for n=4n=4.
