Problem

A spin-12\tfrac12 particle is prepared in ∣12,12⟩|\tfrac12,\tfrac12\rangle and rotated by β=π/3\beta=\pi/3 about the yy axis. ((a)) Using the Wigner matrix d(1/2)(β)d^{(1/2)}(\beta), find the probabilities that a measurement of S^z\hat S_z then gives +ℏ/2+\hbar/2 and −ℏ/2-\hbar/2. ((b)) Write the rotated state if the angle is instead β=2π\beta=2\pi, and give the same two probabilities for it.
